Gypsy Moth Spraying Program in Penn Township
Posted May 9, 2024
In 2022, Pennsylvania DCNR Bureau of Forestry discontinued their Cooperative Gypsy Moth Suppression Program for private properties due to lack of funding. At the February 15, 2024 regular meeting, the Penn Township Board of Supervisors voted to join South Newton Township in coordinating a gypsy moth spraying for properties that are located primarily in the mountains or have properties with a significant amount of wooded area.
Helicopter Application Inc. (HAI) in Gettysburg have been contracted to spray for gypsy moths. HAI will be applying MIMIC insecticide. It is our understanding that MIMIC is not harmful to people, pets or vegetation. For additional information and questions, please contact HAI directly at 717-337-1370.
For more information on the insecticide, please visit: https://www.valentbiosciences.com/foresthealth/products/mimic.
There will be some area overlap to other properties, as overhead spraying is not an exact science.
Penn Township has made our neighboring townships aware of our intentions to spray. It falls upon those townships to inform their residents.
